Converting a .gel file to a .tif file

  1. Open the convert utility under Start menu, programs, MD Apps, Convert.

  2. In the convert program choose open from the file menu

  3. In the convert limits box type in the high and low values that gave the best viewing image in the grayscale adusting box in ImageQuaNT.

  4. Press the convert button and name the file (you must use only 8-character names now, but you can change the name later), note the directory where it will be saved.

  5. .tif files are large and not handy to insert into a document or presentation, so you probably want to use a program such as Corel Photopaint, or Adobe Photoshop to save the image as a .gif or a .jpg.  Also you can use these programs to crop the image so you only show the areas of interest.
