Overfishing, contamination of habitat, and barriers to spawning have led to lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) being classified as endangered by many government agencies. While management agencies have begun programs to restore lake sturgeon populations, little is known about the genetic variation and population structure of these animals.
